CANTERBURY CALLS
A CARING HEARTS - HELPING HANDS TOUR

On the 4th September, 2010 Christchurch was hit by a 7.1 earthquake that damaged the city. Further aftershocks and another earthquake on the 26th December continued to rattle the residents. On the 22nd February, 2011 a major 6.3 earthquake caused extensive damage through the central city and eastern suburbs and, tragically, loss of life.Further major aftershocks in June and December continue to cause damage and frustration.

Christchurch is damaged but not destroyed. The response of the rescuers and contractors getting essential services up and running as fast as possible has been superb. But now the people of Christchurch and Canterbury need your help to get their businesses up and running, the cash flowing, employment protected, the staff being paid, and new hope for a revitalised and recreated city.

Many of the sightseeing attractions and restaurants in Christchurch have re-opened but they need your business to pay the rent and wages. Sufficient accommodation is available for our needs. The attractions of Hanmer, and Kaikoura have not been affected by the earthquakes but are being badly affected by the downturn in tourism to the area.

Our CARING HEARTS - HELPING HANDS programme started with a response to the Boxing Day Sri Lanka Tsunami which is still ongoing (see www.connoisseurholidays.co.nz).

I have done 3 stints in Christchurch on relief efforts at a New Brighton relief centre and a week for the Salvation Army in Linwood and am now delighted to bring you this opportunity to support Christchurch and Canterbury while having a great holiday and seeing parts of Canterbury you may not have seen.
