Continue to Waitomo Caves for a guided tour through the main limestone cave and cruise through the glowworm grotto. (45 minute tour)

Return to Rotorua for a guided tour of the Te Puia thermal area to see bubbling mud pools, famed Pohutu geyser, and to visit the carving and weaving school and enjoy a scintillating Maori concert. Visit the lake front and Government Gardens and Kuirau Park thermal area. You now have 3 options to choose from (admission to 1 included)

9am. Depart Auckland, Rotorua, or Wellington and meet up in Taupo. Visit Wairakei Geothermal Valley, Honey Hive, Huka Falls, and the lakefront for a lunch break (own expense). You have time for a jet boat ride or bungy jump if you wish! Continue around the shores of Lake Taupo to the Tongariro National Park. Visit the Information centre and drive to the Top of the Bruce for a walk to view "Mordor' and see "Mt Doom" from the Lord of the Rings. You also have time to enjoy an alpine or forest walk in the area before dinner and accommodation at the Grand Chateau.

Day 3. Wednesday. WHANGANUI - MY TARANAKI - PARIHAKA - NEW PLYMOUTH.
Continue through Patea, Hawera, and Kaponga and drive through the mountain forest into the Mt Taranaki National Park for a visit to Dawson Falls and a short mountain walk.Visit the Cape Egmont Lighthouse and Parihaka Pa site and learn of the events there in 1881 and continue to New Plymouth for accommodation.

Depart Auckland 7.30am. Drive north over the harbour Bridge and along the Hibiscus Coast to the Otamatea Kauri and Early Settlers Museum, one of the best little museums in New Zealand. Learn of the importance of the kauri tree to the development of Northland and see the lifestyle of the early settlers.

Continue through Ruawai 'kumara capital' of New Zealand, and Dargaville into the Waipoua kauri forest. Visit "Tane Mahuta" giant kauri tree - some 2000 years old. Your special vehicle will be waiting for a 2.5 hour (approx) land tour to Te Paki stream and masive sand dunes on Ninety Mile beach, Cape Reinga light house, Tapotupotu Bay.
